And it strips out the calcium and magnesium your water naturally carries. Ours doesn't — because there's no RO membrane to begin with.

RO vs Water Purifier
An RO membrane can't tell a contaminant from a mineral. It removes both.
Total Dissolved Solids is everything your water carries — including calcium, magnesium and potassium. A domestic RO typically drops output to 10–50 ppm. Municipal supply already sits comfortably inside the BIS limit, so the RO isn't fixing a problem. It's overshooting one.
Minerals are what buffer water against pH swings. Take them out and dissolved CO₂ from the air tips the balance — RO output commonly tests between pH 5.5 and 6.5, below the 6.5–8.5 range BIS specifies for drinking water. Test it yourself with a ₹100 strip.
The WHO has published guidance on demineralised water noting that drinking water is a real, if partial, contributor to daily calcium and magnesium intake — and that removing it entirely is not ideal.
Bones and teeth. RO removes 90–98% of it.
Muscle and nerve function. Also stripped out.
Fluid balance. Gone with the rest.
This isn't in your head. Minerals are what give water its taste — remove them and what's left is described as flat or insipid. It's the single most common complaint people have about their own RO, and the reason many families quietly go back to buying bottled water.
A typical household sends roughly 20,000 litres a year down the drain as RO reject. In a city that rations water, that is the part worth thinking about.
Figures reference BIS IS 10500 drinking water specifications and WHO guidance on demineralised water. Your own RO's output will vary — a TDS meter and pH strip cost under ₹300 together and will tell you exactly where yours sits. We'd rather you checked than took our word for it.
Side by side
For homes on municipal, tanker or society supply.
| Normal RO | Aquadpure | |
|---|---|---|
| Waste water | 3L : 1L | Zero |
| Output TDS | 10–50 ppm | Unchanged |
| pH | ~5.5–6.5 acidic | Neutral |
| Ca / Mg | Removed | Retained |
| Taste | Flat | Unchanged |
| Booster pump | Required | Not needed |
| Yearly running cost | ₹3,000+ | ₹800–1,000 |
| Price | ₹8,000–15,000 | ₹1,395–1,995 |
One honest exception: if your water is borewell-fed and tastes salty (TDS above 500), you need an RO. Neither of our models will help you, and we'd rather say so now.

“Took the bucket out from under the sink. We used to save the RO reject for mopping — now there's nothing to save. Taste is completely normal.”
“Fitted it myself with the video, took about 40 minutes. Got stuck once and called — they talked me through it. Bought the UV model.”
“We're on society tanker supply. Three months in, no issues. Electricity bill came down too.”

Questions
If it's for drinking water, buy the UF + UV model (₹1,995). It's the one with protection against bacteria and viruses. Basic (₹1,395) makes sense only if your water is already safe and you want to fix sediment and taste.
We won't overstate this. RO water is not unsafe, and most of your minerals come from food, not water. What is fair to say: RO removes minerals your water was carrying, leaves the output mildly acidic, makes it taste flat, and wastes three litres for every one. If your source water didn't need that treatment, you're paying a real cost for no benefit.
All fittings, pipe and a manual come in the box, and we send a full Hindi install video to your WhatsApp on delivery day. Handy people fit it themselves; otherwise any local plumber will do it in 30–45 minutes for ₹300–500. Stuck anywhere, call 96252 23245.
No. Neither model reduces TDS — these aren't RO units. If your water tastes salty or hard (TDS above 500), you need an RO instead. These are built for municipal, tanker and society supply.
UF is a membrane with pores around 0.01 micron — bacteria and cysts are physically too big to pass through. UV is a lamp that breaks down the DNA of anything that does get past. Together they're two independent barriers, which is why the premium model has both.
Spun and carbon filters once a year. UF membrane about every two years. UV lamp every 12–14 months. Budget roughly ₹800–1,000 a year for the full set.
3–5 days in metros, 5–7 elsewhere. 7-day replacement — record an unboxing video and claims are approved quickly. One year warranty on the UV lamp and electricals.
